Core Beliefs

Jesus Christ—We believe Jesus is the Savior, the uniquely begotten Son of the living God. We believe He was fully human, allowing Him to intimately understand the plight of humanity, and fully divine, enabling Him to offer Himself as the only perfect sacrifice for the sins of all humankind. We believe He taught the way of life by word and example, and we can trust and follow Him into eternal life.

Humanity—We believe all people are created in the image of God, deeply loved by Him, and designed to live in relationship with Him, yet separated from Him by sin, which is simply rebellion against His will. We believe God took the initiative to mend those broken bonds in the form of Jesus’s atoning sacrifice and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers.

The Word—We believe the bible is a universal message of love, hope and redemption for all humankind. We believe Jesus Christ is the purest expression of God’s will for all people—the word in human form, as John’s gospel attests. We believe the bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit, who continues the work of illuminating God’s will for all who seek Him.

The Kingdom—We believe in the reign and rule of God throughout human history and beyond. We believe the story of God’s kingdom is still unfolding in the world today, as His people carry on the work of Jesus in faithful Christian communities everywhere.

The Church—We believe we are part of a worldwide spiritual family, composed of all those who have put faith in Christ Jesus. We believe the local church is at its best when it functions as a caring family, demonstrating the unconditional love of God to each other and the world.

Salvation—We believe that salvation is the free gift of God, unearned and unattainable by human effort. We believe that grace, properly understood, is the strongest motivator for Christian discipleship and service.

Worship—We believe God, in Christ Jesus, made it possible to commune spiritually with Him and one another. We meet weekly to pray corporately and individually. We praise God and encourage each other through song. We commune with the Lord and our spiritual family as we commemorate Jesus’s sacrifice each Sunday by taking the Lord’s Supper together.

God’s Presence—We believe Jesus Christ is present where His people assemble. It was announced at His birth that we would be called, “God with us,” and he promised never to leave or forsake us. We believe in the active guidance of the Holy Spirit who gifts individuals and churches with everything necessary to sustain faithful Christian communities.

Christian Living—We believe that a Christian’s spiritual journey begins with faith expressed in water baptism and the reception of the Holy Spirit. We believe Christians grow in wisdom and maturity as they learn to submit to God’s leadership in their lives, actively use their spiritual gifts in community, and practice the spiritual disciplines of prayer, worship, study and meditation on the word.
